Smoke Control Approved

Many large towns and city homes are located in Smoke Control Areas. Smoke Controls Areas were declared by the Clean Air Acts of 1956 and 1968 to tackle the growing pollution from the domestic and industry emissions. Homeowners are not permitted to emit smoke from a chimney unless the appliance is burning authorised fuels or it is an exempt appliance.

If you are looking to install a Dovre stove or fire in your urban property, Dovre has an extensive range of wood burning and multi-fuel heating appliances suitable for use in Smoke Control Areas. Each Dovre product page will show a Smoke Control logo, if the stove, fire or fireplace is suitable for use in these Smoke Control Areas.

For properties with a non-exempt appliance, you can visit the DEFRA website to see a list of authorised fuels that you are can burn. Homeowners who would like to burn logs in Smoke Control Areas will need to install a Smoke Control Kit. Dovre offers Smoke Control Kits for most non-exempt appliances. For further advice and information, please seek guidance from your local Dovre retailer.
